Building boxes from a set of rectangles develops understanding of the measurement of rectangular solids. Recognizing that surface area is a measure of covering, students will develop a procedure of finding the sum of the areas of rectangular faces. Students develop the concept of volume as a measure of filling. The general formula of base times height is modeled. Includes a CD with video help for each activity, as well as PDFs to facilitate printing and use on interactive boards.
